SANGAM-2011

To take a walk down the corridors of nostalgia, the third alumni Meet, SANGAM 2011, was inaugurated by the Director of NIT Hamirpur, Prof. R.L. Sharma on 13th evening. The meet started traditionally with the lighting of lamp by the chief guest of the evening and was followed by the recital song “saraswati vandana”.The occasion was graced by more than 150 Alumni and their family members ranging across various batches  from various parts of the country and outside the country as well. Speaking on the occasion, the director underlined and praised the achievements of Alumni of NIT Hamirpur in all walks/spheres of life. He felt that it was matter of great pride for NIT Hamirpur that its Alumni are holding positions of responsibility in various Government organizations, PSUs, Private sector, Academic Institutions. Many of them are successful entrepreneurs providing jobs to others as well. He praised their contribution towards the growth of their Alma Mater and emphasized the need for further strengthening the linkage between the Alumni and NITH Hamirpur and current students.

The Inaugural session was also attended by various Deans, Registrar, HODs, and faculty and staff members of NITH. The Dean of Alumni affairs, Prof Raman Parti highlighted the achievements of NITH and called for greater Alumni Participation.

The President of Alumni association, ALUMNUS, Surender Soni welcomed the alumni and their family members in the campus and appreciated their zeal to assemble here despite the inclement weather. He presented the report of the activities undertaken by the association since last Alumni Meet in 2009. Many new chapters are functioning across the Globe and these bodies hold their own get together as well. He informed the house that a scholarship to the needy students has been started by the Association and expressed his confidence to increase the number of scholarships in near future. He also outlined many future activities to be taken up by the Association. The gathering was also addressed by the representatives of local chapters. The vote of the thanks was given by Er. Rajinder S Barwal, general secretary of Alumni association.

The Inaugural session was followed by cultural programme by our students and alumni and artists of Language and Cultural Deptt of HP presenting the traditional Himachal dances mixed with some more current dance forms. Great bonhomie was observed everywhere with old students reliving their old memories with their batch mates, seniors and juniors. Many of the current students were also seen interacting with their pass out seniors and learning from their experiences. In all, the ambience was electric with people seen chatting and dancing in groups.

The key highlight of the second day, 14th August, was tree plantation. The Alumni planted many trees in the campus in remembrance of their presence in the campus.

The annual general house witnessed active involvement of the alumnus, and a number of commendable suggestions and proposals came up, some of which were approved and the left were set aside for later action. It was decided to strengthen the link between the current NITH students and alumni for their support to current students in the area of training, placement, career counseling and any other help. It was also decided to raise funds to develop the student’s activity centre coming up in the campus and other activities. The association also requested the Administration of NITH to name a building in the loving memory of its beloved founding Principal of REC Hamirpur, Dr. R.C. Chauhan. It paid floral tribute to his contributions for the growth of the then REC. Finally a new body was elected and constituted to carry forward the work of Alumni association. The new body thanked the alumni in reposing their faith in them and pledged to work selflessly for growth of association and NITH. The Meet ended with promise to meet again and everyone bid emotional farewell to each other and their beloved NITH.
