Minutes of the General Body Meeting of NIT
Hamirpur Alumni Association held on 27th May 2007 at 11.00 A.M.
at NIT auditorium during the two day Alumni Meet, 26-27th May
2007 The meeting was attended by 146 members from batches graduating since 1990. This included 59 alumni from 1990-1994 batches, 45 alumni from 1995-1999 batches, 13 alumni from 2000-2004 batches and 29 from 2005-2007 batches. The worthy Director, Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty members were also invited to attend the proceedings. The meeting started with the welcome to all those present by the President of Alumni Association, Dr. Pardeep Kumar (1990 batch). This was followed by introduction by the Alumni to all the members present. 2.
Formation of New Executive Body
The General body decided
to start a few Local Chapters of Alumni Association. Following
members were elected by the members through voice vote to activate and
start the chapters at
a. Development of advance technology laboratories in the departments. b. Help for industrial training during Summer and placement of the graduating students at their work places c. Delivery of experts lectures by alumni so that the students can be benefited. d. Participation in conducting short term programmes as resource persons as well as delegates. e. Improvement of course curriculum and other quality education related issues. f. Offering of short duration course. Dr. Inderdeep Singh Saini (1998) and presently faculty at IIT Roorkee and Narender Sharma (1998) volunteered to offer a course on value Engineering. After the briefing by HODs and discussion on those issues worthy Director, Prof. I K Bhat, summarized the issues and addressed the gathering. He apprised the General Body of the all round developments in NIT in past two years that has been appreciated by one and all as reflected in various surveys and evaluation by TEQIP auditor. He appealed to the Alumni to join hands with their Alma Mater to further improve its brand image. He sought their cooperation in setting up of state of the art laboratories, setting up of Advance Centers such as Material , Energy and Environment, VLSI Design etc., transmitting information about the latest developments in the industries, conducting short courses for UG and PG students, delivering expert lectures. He also requested Alumni to visit NIT website regularly and use the message board to provide feed back about Institute activities. He informed that NITH is collecting the old photographs and making digital copies of them for posterity. He requested Alumni to send scanned copies or hard copies of photographs in their possession. He urged them to set up a fund to help such students who are not covered under various scholarship schemes on offer but do require financial support to pursue their degree. It was decided that the Alumni Meet at Hamirpur shall be organized once in two years and the Local Chapters Meet shall be at least once in a year. The alumni expressed need to establish an Alumni Fund to meet the expenses of such Alumni Meets, providing scholarship to needy students and providing support to such alumnus who may be in great distress. It was decided that contribution to the fund shall be voluntary and the same shall be displayed on website. The norms of regulating the fund shall be formulated at the earliest by the Executive body of the Alumni association. 8.
Feed Back about the Alumni Meet and other Issues All Alumni were requested to submit a feed back form to provide suggestions for improvement in organization for such meets and Alumni Association activities. They were also requested to give their willingness for participation in Institutional development activities, such as training, Placement, Laboratory development, introduction of new course, delivery of expert lectures etc.
