ABOUT ISTAM

The Indian Society of Theoretical and applied Mechanics (ISTAM) was established in 1955, with its Headquarters at IIT Kharagpur. Since then the Annual conventions of the Society have been held at various IITs, Universities RECs, NITs  and other Engineering Colleges and reputed research establishments in different  parts of the country. It has been attracting large research community not only from India but also foreign countries. The Golden Jubilee Congress of the Society was held at IIT Kharagpur in December 2005, in which a large number of delegates from several parts of the India and abroad participated. The Society has gone a long way in promoting interdisciplinary research in Applied Mechanics and Basic Sciences. The Society has a specific philosophy to encourage young scientists in the form of Proceedings. Abstracts of papers, that are presented in the Congress are publisher in the Souvenir volume. The 55^th Congress of ISTAM (An International Meet) as per the recognition by IUTAM is going to be held at the NIT, Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, India.
