MHRD,AICTE Winter Short Term  Course  on “ Recent Trends in Renewable Energy System Technologies”  w.e.f  Dec, 21-25, 2009 at NIT, Hamirpur. 

         The winter short term  Course  on “ Recent Trends in Renewable Energy System Technologies”  (  Dec, 21-25, 2009) at NIT, Hamirpur was inaugurated by Prof. I.K.Bhat, Director, National Institute Technology Hamirpur .  In his inaugural address Prof. I.K.Bhat presented the Energy Scenario  & Policy Perspective  in India and stressed the need for a comprehensive Energy Policy which will promote renewable energy systems to combat climate change concerns and bridge the gap between developed and developing Countries Policies on climate change.

 

Prof. Bhat said  that the Centre of Excellence in Energy & Environment will start M.Tech (Energy Technology) and Ph.D in Energy  & Environment w.e.f. July 2010 and informed that the Centre has taken a number of initiatives like getting declared Hamirpur & Shimla as Solar Cities by H.P. Govt. for which the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy Sources, Govt. of India will provide assistance. 

 

Mr.  Robert Angioletti, Advisor, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power Govt. of India, representing French Environment & Energy Management Agency (ADME), in his key note address, highlighted the need for improving energy efficiency in Industry, buildings and transport.  Mr. Angioletti highlighted the research being carried out by French Institutions.  Ms Sakshi Tandon, Incharge Scholarships in French Embassy provided details of Scholarships available for higher studies in France for Indian Students. Ms Tandon said every  year 20 fellowships in various disciplines, are granted to Indian students.          

 

 Mr.Rober Angioletti & Ms Tandon were here in connection with BONJOUR India-  the Festival of France being  organised through-out the Country to highlight the achievements in Science & Technology in French Institutions.

 

Sh. S.K.Singh, Director,( Solar Thermal) , Ministry of New & Renewable Energy Sources, Govt. of India, provided details of the Ministry’s Solar Energy Programms

            

Prpf. S.S.Chandel, Course Co-ordinator said that 40 teachers from all over the country are participating in the course in which 14 experts will provide inputs in solar passive heating & cooling, Solar air heating, Drying, Bio-gas, Biomass gasification, Solar Architecture , Hydropower, Wind Energy, Solar radiation, Solar Power Generation and Energy Efficiency.

 

Prof. N.S.Thakur welcomed the participants. Dr. S.S.Katoch presented the vote of thanks and  Dr. Mamta Awasthi conducted the programme.  Prof. V.K.Sarda, Dean, & Prof. A.S.Singha, Registrar, NIT, Hamirpur were also present during the inaugural session.
