ACTIVITIES OF THE
DEPARTMENT
The
various activities in the department are a blend of
both academic and co-curricular activities. This is
co-coordinated so as to contribute to the overall
development of the Students. Another feather in the
cap is an active participation of students in
various Seminars and Workshops. The Department is
also actively participating in National
Association for Students of Architecture (NASA),
which is a platform for the budding Architects of
the entire Nation to share their views on the
related subject. The students are also encouraged to
go for the various educational tours to get the
maximum field exposure.
STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC
ACTIVITIES
The students have
been regularly participating in national level
competitions like INSDAG (Award for the best
steel design) and NASA competitions etc. The
students have won the various paper reading and
presentation contests.

Mr. Sachin. S.
Patil had participated in the essay competition
on “Green Building and Energy: a creative
challenge to Engineers and Architects” organized
under the banner of Construction journal of
India in the year 2005. The paper submitted by
him was selected to receive the first prize of
Rs. 5000/- plus a shield out of all the papers
submitted by the pre final and final year
students of Civil Engineering and Architecture
across the country.

Recently , Sachin
S. Patil and Riyan Habeeb were awarded with
special mention prize at IIT Roorkee for their
presentation on the topic “Digital Designing and
Analysis”.

The students have
scored good ranks in the GATE 2006 Exam with All
India Ranks 23, 28, 83 and so on.

The students have
been participating annually in the all India
level quiz competition “Archumen” and have been
bagging the top positions at all India level
CO-CURRICULAR
ACTIVITIES
All the venues for the
various cultural and academic activities are
designed and decorated by the students of
Architecture under the able guidance of faculty of
Architecture. The students have been participating
in extra curricular activities during the Hill’ffair
and for VISSA events including face painting,
sketching, group discussions, quiz etc. Students
participated as observers in the Zonal NASA
convention held in Lucknow in October 2003 and in
Delhi in November 2004 in which they won prizes in
the various on the spot competitions. The students
also arranged a Pre convention meet, to Annual NASA
2004 in the Deptt. of Architecture of the institute.
They have also attended the Annual NASA 2004, 2005
at Bhopal and Mumbai respectively. Exposure to all
India Architecture colleges and their quality of
academic work has been a major source of inspiration
to the students. Expert lectures and workshops are
conducted regularly and are the part of curriculum.

CONSTRUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN
BY THE FACULTY:
A number of
construction projects have been dealt with by the
department in all these 6 years including the
planning of the Juice bar, lecture halls, automated
office complex, conceptual drawings of the extension
of library, vertical expansion of different blocks
in the campus itself. The department faculty has
contributed significantly in the development of the
institute and has undertaken following projects:

Designing and planning of the new Architecture
Block.
•
Renovation drawing of the all the Deptt. buildings.
•
Landuse
map of the Institute.
•
Reception counter of the institute’s Auditorium.
•
Color
scheme of the various departments & Hostels of the
institute.
•
Designing of the Juice Bar near the Director’s
Residence.
•
Landscape Development Plan of SLIET, Longowal (Pb.)
•
landscape layout of the National institute of
Technology, Hamirpur.
•
Design
of the Hostel Brochure of the Institute.
•
Convocation Souvenir cover page design
•
Documentation and planning of Shani Dev Temple
Complex at Lambru.
OTHER ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES
The faculty members have contributed 10 publications
for the national/international journals by now and
about 25 papers in the national and international
conferences.
The department has been organizing short term
courses for the better exposure and knowledge of
students, faculty and the community. The following
courses were organized by the Deptt in the recent
past.
•
“ARCHITECTURAL SOLUTION FOR ENERGY OPTIMIZATION”
from July 12th – 16th, 2004 sponsored by AICTE, New
Delhi.
•
“LANDUSE
PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT OF HILL AREAS” from May 30th
– June 3rd, 2005 Organized under service to
Community & Economy programme of TEQIP for the year
2005.

“ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT AND CAPACITY
BUILDING” to be held from 5th June,2006
to 9th June,2006
The department has
sincerely initiated efforts for the promotion of
Sustainable Development in Region with the
collaboration of A3 Foundation, Panchkula. The
Deptt. owes the responsibility and is totally
committed towards the cause of Sustainable
development in this hill region. |
