National Cadet Corps is a Tri-Services Organization comprising the Army, Navy and Air Force, engaged in grooming the youth – ‘The Leaders of Tomorrow’ – into disciplined and patriotic citizens.  

After independence the present day NCC under the Ministry of Defense came into existence on 16 Apr 1948 through NCC act XXXI, 1948. NCC was formally inaugurated on 15 Jul 1948 as soon as the schools and colleges reopened after summer vacation.

NIT Hamirpur holds the Naval Wing of the NCC. It has become a vibrant youth movement with almost 50students being registered each year. The students, who become cadets after joining the organization, are both boys and girls. The cadets are awarded with B & C certificates .They are ranked as Cadets, Lance Cadets, Petty Officer Cadets, Captain Cadets in accordance with their eligibility for B and C certificate.

NCC in the college campus is under the 1H.P. Naval Unit Bilaspur. This unit has the directorate at Chandigarh and groups headquarter at Shimla, H.P.

Each year two annual camps(generally at Shah Talai and Lathiyani ) are arranged by the unit where numbers of activities are occurring .This aims toward the development of national integrity, physical and mental developments of Cadet and are also trained for the odd times like war, aid to civil authority.

Today former cadets hold very high officers and have excelled in the field of governance, defense, academics, acting, medicine, engineering, industry or suffice to say, in every nation building endeavor.
